I am an independent Technical Authority and strategic consultant specialising in advanced NDT, welding governance and pipeline integrity for high-hazard gas transmission, compressor stations and hydrogen infrastructure.
I have delivered assurance and field leadership across the full construction sequence — welding, NDT, coating, hydrostatic testing and handover — on major projects across the UK, Ireland and Australia. From 80 km pipelines to high-pressure compressor stations and hydrogen electrolysers.
I also serve as a Technical Advisor to HSE UK on pipeline inspection and integrity, and I am the Lead Author of GIS/NDT/2 for the Gas Industry Standards Board. That combination — standards authorship and hands-on site delivery — means the governance I build is practical, not theoretical.

Every project listed above ran into something. That's construction. Here are some of the challenges I've helped teams work through, and the approaches that got them to the other side.
A cracking mechanism showed up on large-bore, high-grade pipework during production welding. The investigation traced it to fit-up practice and procedural gaps. I redesigned the fit-up methodology, pulled together the root-cause evidence and built the engineering case for a deviation based on lifecycle assessment. Production resumed. No recurrence.
Thousands of welds on an infrastructure programme came back with indications outside standard acceptance criteria. The default response would have been widespread rework, adding months to the schedule. Instead, I led the engineering critical assessment and deviation strategy, demonstrating fitness for purpose. The approach satisfied the asset owner and the regulator. A subsequent HSE review was closed with no further action.
Brought onto a pipeline project where welding controls, NDT documentation and traceability had drifted. I rebuilt the control framework, tightened acceptance criteria and improved coordination between welding and inspection teams. Repair rates dropped. The project completed with documentation handover intact.
A large-diameter pipeline programme with multiple simultaneous work fronts, stations and complex crossings (road, rail, water). I put together and led a 76-person inspection team and kept standards consistent from one end to the other. The kind of job where things only work if the systems are right before the first weld goes in.
Pipeline diversions involving HDD, auger bore and microtunnel demand a different inspection approach to open-cut. On a network capital programme, I developed the framework for trenchless crossings so that contractor assurance held up under the specific constraints of bore-based installation.
A 4 km marine tunnel on a 42-inch pipeline in a remote coastal environment. Confined access, weather exposure and the logistics of keeping inspection standards where they need to be when nothing about the conditions makes it easy.
