Engineering judgement

I am an independent Technical Authority and strategic consultant specialising in advanced NDT, welding governance and pipeline integrity for high-hazard gas transmission, compressor stations and hydrogen infrastructure.

I have delivered assurance and field leadership across the full construction sequence — welding, NDT, coating, hydrostatic testing and handover — on major projects across the UK, Ireland and Australia. From 80 km pipelines to high-pressure compressor stations and hydrogen electrolysers.

I also serve as a Technical Advisor to HSE UK on pipeline inspection and integrity, and I am the Lead Author of GIS/NDT/2 for the Gas Industry Standards Board. That combination — standards authorship and hands-on site delivery — means the governance I build is practical, not theoretical.

Clients engage me to get it right first time: building audit-ready quality systems, strengthening traceability, and making clear engineering decisions that keep projects moving without compromising standards.

SGN — H100 Hydrogen Project
Technical Authority
Led ECA deviation strategy across approximately 4,000 welds on hydrogen electrolyser systems, enabling fit-for-purpose acceptance and avoiding around 6 months of rework. HSE investigation closed with no further action.
2025 – 2026
National Grid — Hatton Compressor Station
Inspection Controller
Diagnosed root cracking mechanism on 36-inch high-pressure pipework (API 5L X60). Redesigned fit-up methodology and secured misalignment deviation via lifecycle assessment, approved by National Gas.
2023 – 2025
Spiecapag — Southampton to London Pipeline
Quality Manager
Re-established welding/NDT governance and documentation control mid-project. Drove reduction in repair rates through clearer acceptance criteria, improved coordination and strengthened traceability.
2022 – 2023
Cadent Gas — Capital Delivery
NDT Technical Authority
Technical lead across network diversion projects including HS2 and M42 corridors. Trenchless crossing governance, contractor quality assurance and safe execution oversight.
2019 – 2022
SGN — Gas to the West (Northern Ireland)
Quality Manager
Managed 76-person inspection team across approximately 80 km pipeline, 7 stations, 86 road crossings, rail and water crossings. Full build-sequence quality assurance and handover.

Santos GLNG Pipeline (Australia)
Senior NDT Authority
420 km, 42-inch pipeline with 15 stations under EPC delivery. NDT governance authority including approximately 4 km marine tunnel crossing in coastal environment.
